The Spider Pedestal Base.

A single sculptural steel base, four splayed legs radiating from a central column, centred under the table top. The most architectural piece in the leg range. Lets every chair slide fully under the table from any angle, makes a 280cm top read as a single floating slab, and turns the base itself into a statement object. £620 upgrade on top of the table base price.

One base. Total chair flexibility.

Two-leg bases (Box, Trapezium, X-Frame, Hairpin) place a leg at each end of the table, chairs at the far ends have to clear the leg's footprint when pulling out. A single-pedestal base puts one leg in the centre, leaving the entire perimeter clear for chairs and benches to slide in from any angle. The most-functional leg style for tables that get used hard.

When the Spider is the right call

Three rooms it was designed for.

Banquette and bench seating

If you're putting a bench down one side of the table (or two benches, one each side), a Spider pedestal lets the benches slide fully underneath when not in use, a two-leg base would block them. The default leg-style recommendation for our matching benches.

Long entertaining tables (240cm+)

On the 240cm and 280cm tops, a single central pedestal makes the slab read as a floating piece of timber rather than a top supported on two stools. Particularly strong with black or anthracite steel and a dark stain (chocolate, walnut, black).

Round-tabled dining rooms

Even on shorter tops (180cm and 200cm), the Spider works for rooms where chairs are pulled in and out from all four sides, kitchen-island-adjacent dining, wide rectangular extensions, country-house dining. Chair access from any angle without negotiating leg geometry.

A note on the upgrade

What the £620 buys.

The Spider pedestal uses substantially more steel than any two-leg base, the central column has to carry the entire weight of a 110kg-plus oak top, and the four splayed arms have to keep the table stable when six people lean on one side. It's our most engineered leg style; takes a full day to fabricate per base versus a few hours for the standard range.

Covered by the same 10-Year Structural Guarantee as every other leg in the range. Floor-foot pads included to protect timber and tile floors.
