M6 threaded inserts & bolts

Screw the inserts into the underside of the top, then bolt your C-channels or leg plates on — and take them off again as often as you like. Free delivery when they come with C-channels, legs or a table; £5 postage on their own.

How we fix a top

Inserts in the oak, bolts through the steel.

Mark each slot of the C-channel (or each hole in the leg plate) on the underside of the top and drill a pilot hole for the insert.

Drive a threaded insert into each hole with a hex key until it sits flush. It gives you a proper M6 steel thread in the timber.

Bolt the channel or leg on with the black button-head bolts. Through a slot, leave them just snug so the top can still move.

Questions

How many fixings do I need?

A 100cm C-channel has five slots, so a pair takes ten — exactly one fixing kit. Shorter pairs take fewer, and the spares are handy. For legs, count the holes in the top plates: most pairs of frames need eight.

What are they made of?

The inserts are Type D die-cast zinc-alloy inserts with a hex socket drive and a coarse outer thread that grips the timber. The bolts are black, high-tensile grade 10.9 steel with a low flanged button head that sits neatly in a C-channel slot.

How much is delivery?

Nothing extra when your fixings come with C-channels, table legs or a table. On their own they go by post for £5 in the UK (£8 to Europe, £10 to the USA), usually within two working days.
