Each sample is an offcut from the French oak boards on our racks, sanded and hand-finished in your chosen stain with the same food-safe hardwax oil.

Samples go out from the Wickford workshop within two working days, through the letterbox. No courier, no signature, nothing else to pay.

Oak changes with the light. Your room decides.

Every stain we offer is a pigmented hardwax oil worked into real grain, so the colour shifts with the daylight, the lamps and whatever it sits next to. Chocolate reads near-black under warm evening light and warm brown by a window; White Oak can look cool or creamy depending on your walls.

A sample lets you check the one thing a screen can’t: how the finish sits in your room, against your floor. It’s the same reason people visit the workshop, just cheaper than the petrol.

Sample questions

What exactly arrives?

A small offcut of solid French oak, sanded and finished in the stain you chose, with the finish name written on the back. It’s the actual timber and the actual oil we use on the tables, so what you see is what you’ll get.

Will every board look exactly like the sample?

Close, but oak is a natural material. Your table will show the same colour and sheen as the sample, with its own grain pattern and the occasional knot or figuring. The sample is there to settle the colour question, not to promise a matching grain.

Can I order more than one?

Yes. Tick as many finishes as you like and they’ll go out together in one envelope. Most people order two or three to compare side by side.

How long until it arrives?

We finish and post samples within two working days, Royal Mail 1st class. Allow the rest of the week to be safe.

Do you post samples outside the UK?

Yes. Samples go by ordinary post anywhere we deliver to, with nothing extra to pay for postage.
