Surrey is a morning's drive.

Surrey is one of the counties we ship to most outside Essex, and the reason is simply the M25: the workshop sits just inside it on the north-east side, and Surrey occupies the south-west quadrant, so the run is one motorway with no city crossing in the middle. Guildford is about seventy-five miles, Kingston nearer fifty.

What that means practically is that Surrey deliveries do not need the overnight staging that a Devon or Yorkshire address does. The team loads at Wickford in the morning and is unloading in Surrey the same day, which is why the booking window we offer the day before tends to be a genuine four hours rather than a cautious half-day.

The price is the same across the county and the same as it is ten miles from the workshop — nothing. There is no distance surcharge anywhere on the mainland.

What fits a Surrey dining room

Two very different rooms, two different tables.

Surrey splits fairly cleanly into two kinds of dining room, and they want different tables. The Victorian and Edwardian villas through Reigate, Dorking and Godalming tend to have deep, narrow dining rooms with a chimney breast on one wall and a bay at the end. A 200cm × 90cm leaves room to pull a chair out past the hearth; a 100cm width usually does not, and that is the single most common sizing mistake we talk people out of in this county.

The other Surrey room is the rear extension — Esher, Cobham, Weybridge and the newer parts of Guildford and Woking, where a kitchen has been opened into a wide flat-roofed extension with bi-folds along the garden wall. Those rooms take width comfortably and look under-furnished with anything short of 240cm. The 240cm × 100cm and 260cm × 100cm are the two we send into Surrey most often.

Getting it in

Gravel drives, side returns and listed doorways.

The top and the base travel separately and are assembled in the room. A 240cm top is one piece of solid oak and does not bend, but at 37mm it will go through doorways and round turns that a fully assembled table never would.

Tell us about the drive

Long gravel or unmade drives are common through the Surrey Hills and the Farnham villages, and they decide where the van can actually stop. Told in advance, the team plans the carry; discovered on the day, it becomes a problem.

The front door is rarely the way in

In the listed cottages around Shere, Chiddingfold and Godalming the original front door is often the narrowest opening in the house. A side or garden door is usually the better route, and it is worth checking before delivery day.

Side returns and steps

Where a Victorian villa has been extended, access to the new room is often down a narrow side return with a step or two. Mention it when we call to book and the team brings the right lifting kit.
