Down the M23

One county, two coastlines' worth of housing.

Sussex runs from the Kent border at Rye to the Hampshire border past Chichester, and the road in from Essex is the M25 then the M23, which lands us at Crawley and Haywards Heath first. Brighton and the coast are another half-hour on; Rye and the eastern edge are usually approached across country from the Kent side instead.

Delivery is free to every part of it, and the same free whether you are in a Crawley new-build ten minutes off the motorway or a farmhouse under the Downs at the end of a track.

Getting it in

Brighton and Hove have an enormous stock of Regency and Victorian terraces converted into flats, and between them they produce the single most common access problem we deal with anywhere in the country: a shared front door, a narrow communal staircase, and a half-landing where the stair turns back on itself. Sometimes twice.

This is the reason our top and base ship separately and are assembled in your room. A fully built dining table cannot make that turn; a 37mm top carried on edge, with the base following separately, usually can. It is the practical advantage of how these tables are made and it matters more on a Brighton half-landing than on any drive in the county.

Two things help us before delivery day. Measure the narrowest point of the turn, corner to corner, and tell us the floor you are on. And check whether your street is in a controlled parking zone — much of central Brighton and Hove is, and a van may need a suspension or a loading window rather than simply arriving. Tell us when the team calls to book and it gets planned rather than improvised.

What fits a Sussex dining room

Sized to the building, not the county.

Sussex housing varies so sharply that a county-wide recommendation would be useless. These are the three cases we size for most often.

140–180

Brighton & Hove conversions

Flats carved out of terraced houses, often with a through-room and a bay. The 140cm, 160cm and 180cm exist for exactly these spaces, and the narrower 90cm width keeps a walkway past the table.

200–220

Regency first-floor rooms

Where a conversion has kept the original first-floor drawing room, the proportions are tall and generous and can carry more table than the footprint suggests. 200cm or 220cm at 100cm wide suits them.

240–280

Downs farmhouses & Weald houses

Farmhouse kitchens under the Downs and the older houses through the High Weald take the top of the range comfortably. 240cm to 280cm at 100cm, often with the heavier box or X-frame base.
